half handed and a little news.

I am going to see Half Handed Cloud tonight! He doesn't come to Texas often so I'm very excited. While we were at a resturant in San Francisco this past tour John Ringhoffer walked by and saw us through the window. He was taking a break from recording his new record so hopefully we'll hear some of those songs. The past times I've seen him he has played with a minimal group of one or two people who are all multitasking instruments like crazy! here is a sample

In Fishboy news, I have spent most of October constructing a dense, elaborate compact group of songs that tell a strange new story. The rest of the year we will be trying out new members and figuring out how to construct the demos into full band songs. As of now I think these songs have the potential to be be our most ambitious undertaking yet. Sorry if that's too vague, comment with some questions and I'll try answer them if you need to know more! Of course with every Fishboy record, there is a long explanation/set up to the whole thing, but I'll hold off on telling it now.

Beatles and Odd Days.

Seems like everyone has Beatles fever since 9.9.09. I haven't played the new rock band yet but have listened to the remasters which ended up being pretty impressive in my book. Tommy just sent me a couple of excellent tracks from a BBC radio show where a team was able to comb over a couple songs and isolate each track explaining the exact recording process. It's pretty incredible and worth a listen if you've got the time. I've read a lot of the explanations before but hearing the audio really makes a difference. Here is a link to the blog: http://waxy.org/2009/10/audio_analysis_of_the_beatles_multitrack_masters/

Also, after it was recommended by James Kochalka on his site I've been anxiously waiting every new episode of the animated blog MY ODD DAYS. It's the perfect combination of a daily comic blog and a deadpan animated short. It's usually hilarious and sometimes touching with a soundtrack that includes songs that the author Ben Wolfinsohn is listening to at that moment. Great stuff! Ben, if you happen to read this and ever want to use Fishboy songs, they're all yours!

finally, I am pumped the new BOAT LP comes out in two weeks.

Also, we have a show at the end of the month on Halloween with none other than STILL FLYIN' an excellent giant dance pop group from San Francisco. Happy Bullets are also gonna play and its at the Amsterdam Bar in Dallas. Mark your calendars now.
