Tuesday Comic!-movie time

this comic was partially influenced by this classic scene:

So there is a movie coming out that is an adaptation of a really great comic about a twenty something nerd who plays in a garage band, loves old video games, and gets into kung fu fights with his girlfriend's ex-boyfriends. It is being directed by some one who made one of my favorite movies of the past ten years (Edgar Wright/Hot Fuzz,) features several great young actors, and is being soundtracked by some of my favorite musicians (Nigel Godrich, Beck, Cornelius) All this should add up to my favorite movie of all time right? right?????

wednesday night comic!-caught in the bathroom

Yesterday at the rock show I had the pleasure of singing a couple of Parry Gripp songs with Mount Righteous as they prepared to be his backing band at a show in Austin this week. Here is the song from the comic.

This brought my maddening week of watching shows to an end as we wont be heading down to SXSW after all because the show organizer lost the venue he had booked to the official festival. Sorry to every one who was looking forward to it. I personally have seen enough bands to last the rest of the year including some of my dearest friends who all might have played some the best sets I've seen from them so far.

Saturday night, Minorcan played their songs dead on as a four piece bringing a mix of sincere folk and fuzzed out acoustic guitar with great drum, bass, piano and horn arrangements. I have played with song writer Ryan tons of times and his group really knows how to bring out the best in his songs.

Sunday-Math the Band have rocking out as a two piece with backing tracks down to a science, knowing exactly which sine wave solo is going to cut through which distorted guitar and which combination of drop-outs and kick-ins is going to add up to the perfect song. I haven't thought about it until writing that last sentence but their band name is actually extremely appropriate. loved it.

Last night- Amo Joy played one of their best sets ever rocking out to blissful sugar coated psych pop making me wish I was good at guitar. Everyone was a master at their instrument for that matter and made it seem so effortless, which is rare but a pleasure to see in a pop band.

Red Pony Clock, played a set without any horns, which was pointed out to me the next day at lunch. It was so good I didn't miss them at all.  The light breezy combination of vibraphone, violin, marimba (formerly owned by Tiny Tim) finger picked guitar, bass and drums, made for a beautifully layered (without being too busy) set of songs.

I can't forget all the great local bands that played the show either. Mount Righteous is as tight as can be pounding away intense and poppy patterns. Spooky Folk (with a new album) should be the most popular band in Denton within weeks. Honestly, I couldn't even push my way into the room to see them up close but even from the other room I could tell how great the song writing and arrangements were. I can't wait to get a copy of the album. New Science Projects ended the night in the attic great as usual with a huge sing along. I hope to someday thousands of people are singing a long to those same songs.

I'm worn out. I  need to catch up on Lost.

oh, also, I played a set of songs that will be the next Fishboy album and everyone sang along as if they had heard everything before. That was strange. I hope Sweatpants isn't leaking my demos to the web.

ok guys, expect news from me soon. Keep enjoying the comics, and keep spreading the word.

please do be a big favor

Hey guys,

I recently did sound on a seven minute film project for my friend Jun who entered it into a highly competitive competition with a large cash prize that would act as a a budget for even bigger and better project that I would be involved in.  Great news already! we got past the first round and made it on to the website for people to vote on the short which can be found here:

http://www.thedoorpost.com/truth/cosmos/

You have to take 2 minutes to sign up so that they know you are a real person and then click back on this link and vote.

Jun is also going to work on some Fishboy videos in the near future for little or no money that will take up a lot of his time, so please lets all help him out here and vote this thing to the top.

thank you very much! I hope everyone is liking the comics. I'll be back with a music related update sometime this week.

EDIT: looks like you have to watch and vote on five movies before your vote counts. THANKS!!!!!

Tuesday Comic!-Sourdough, The Final Chapter

I don't want my Dad to think everything he tells me is going to end up in a comic but the only other ideas for todays comic were a couple of strange locations and some mario related jokes.  I'll still probably end up using those.
