a ghost story

Today I bring you a special video from our last tour in which we played at the haunted last venue of Buddy Holly with the Poison Control Center. This show was a blast! I'll probably post more from it soon.

APPLES! PCC! FISHBOY! YETTER!

This morning we have a video from the Apples in Stereo show in Dallas this summer. At the end of the night Robert asked the Poison Control Center, Fishboy, Big Fresh, Chris Yetter and all his friends on stage to help with Ruby (my favorite Apples song) here it is!

Speaking of Robert Schnider and E6? Justin went to the Elephant Six Holiday Surprise show in Chicago and said it was wonderful I'm sure that is well documented all around the web. Also! Optical Atlas has a new track from Robert's children's album ROBERT BOBERT AND THE BUBBLE MACHINE. Sounding good!

SUPERJAIL!

I got too much sleep last weekend so when sunday night finally came I was suffering from some severe insomnia. To pass the time I got caught up on all the episodes of an amazing new show on Adult Swim: SUPERJAIL! Created by Augenblick Studios, the geniuses behind all of the animation on Wonder Showzen, Superjail is an incredibly gory and detailed headtrip of a show thats over before you even know what's happening (each episode is only 12 minutes). Here is the second episode.

I think this is probably the best AS show since Venture Bros.

Two videos from Worcester

Here are two videos to start your week off right. The first is from the excellent duo sometimes trio known as Math the Band. Kevin and Justine are great people and they make great music. I don't know if I can do it justice by trying to describe it but if you forced me too I would say it is somewhere along the lines of Atom and his Package if Atom's package was a macbook. THIS IS A GOOD THING, obviously, since I like Math much more than AAHP. This is my favorite song off their new album which I haven't heard yet.

Next you have Fishboy playing Hard Earned Money. I screwed up one of the lines because I was so surprised that people are singing along.

This show was at the Q in Worcester Mass; a town I would like to return to someday.

Here is another video from our tour. I went ahead and got a vimeo account for stuff like this that the general youtube community will not find interesting. Check it out!

Cocaine Off a Hookers Chest

I've posted about this before, but now all 43 custom ordered songs by Keith John Adams are online HERE.

From the site:
Keith says: "At the 2007 CMJ festival in New York, Mike from HHBTM Records suggested I write personal songs for the first 25 people who pre-order the album, Unclever, which was due out at the end of the year. They'd each give me a story about themselves, and I'd compose and record a bespoke song just for them. I loved the idea and foolishly upped it to 40 songs, though in the end it was 43."

The process: "I wrote and recorded the lot in about 6 weeks, usually doing 2 a day. I'd sit there with an e-mail of a story and a cup of coffee, and give myself an hour or so to come up with the concept and lyrics. Then I'd go into my little home studio and work feverishly to come up with the music. I had one SM57 microphone, my guitars, a cheap keyboard and a tiny drum-kit. After 3 hours or so I usually had something usable. All of them are, I suppose, sort of overworked demos. I thought it'd be a chance to recycle some old ideas but in the event it was easier to just let my mind flow and improvise completely new stuff. I'd given myself several days off, but by song 30 I was losing it. I sent Mike a message saying I couldn't finish the songs. He responded by telling me to just get on with it and stop moaning!"

The result: "I really enjoyed targeting an audience of one, which seemed to give me an immediate emotional direction with each song. As they stacked up I felt I was working on a monster album, so it was natural I vary the nature and genres of the tracks. But for more than 40 songs! Could I do it? In the end, of course, some are more successful than others, some are lighter, some darker, but all of them feel integral to the project. I feel it proved something about the creative process too, that deadlines and restrictions can be the artist's greatest engine. Hope you enjoy 'em. KJA

I love concepts like these and would love to do something like this in the future. Its a complete combination of commerce and art. AND 43 SONGS!

If you scroll all the way to the bottom you can hear the two that Chris Yetter bought for the band. Thanks Chris and Keith!

P.S. Keith's actual album UNCLEVER (the one with less songs that he did this promotion for) is actually very clever and very great.

Astronautalis-Pomegranate

A pal of mine Andy Bothwell aka Astronautalis has just released his third and greatest album: POMEGRANTE. Andy is technically from Jacksonville, FL but has been embraced by the local Dallas/Denton music scene for spending his college years in Dallas while getting his degree (in theater I believe) at SMU.  Slowly he has gone from free style prodigy to well crafted songwriter. This new album is one that isn't afraid to jump around with moods, tempos and genres and challenge the listener. I love it. You should too.

While were on the subject of awesomeness from Jacksonville, why don't you have this album yet?

Andy's friend Ben who plays under the name Radical Face. I love it.  You'll love it.
Check these guys out.
