classic comic weekend!
This is one of the first comics I ever drew while on staff at the high school paper. I had auditioned for the resident comic strip author and wasn't told that I didn't get the job until after my schedule was already locked in and the semester had started, so by default I became a staff writer which to me, meant I would just draw comics anyway and tape them to the wall. The only articles i remember writing were a fake diary from the perspective of a lovesick robot (7 years before Wall-E) and a review of a Fishboy CD in which I heaped on the praises without revealing I was Fishboy. When the final print came there was an editors note that said something like "Eric Michener the author is actually Fishboy" making me look pretty dumb. When the whole class asked the teacher why she did that she said: "THE SCHOOL PAPER ISN'T THE PLACE FOR YOUR WEIRD INSIDE JOKES" I drew another comic and taped it to the wall.

New Poster! May 15th 2010 @ Hailey's
I tried to make a cartoon version of the Gutterth Moth logo but it ended up looking more like a butterfly. This is going to be a great show!

New Shows! Denton! Seattle!?
We have two shows coming up! The first one will be a full band show in Denton at Haileys presented by the good people at Gutterth. We've each been mutual fans of each other for some time but have never been able to match up schedules until now! Also playing will be Boxcar Bandits, Delmore Pilcrow and more! We are going to play a lot of new stuff as it may be the last full band show before we go into the studio but will try and throw in a couple of surprises.
Next! I am going on a trip to Seattle to see some friends get married and visit family. While I'm there, I'm going to play at least one solo show (maybe more... not counting a wedding reception) it's going to be with the fabulous Terrordactyls, Heligoats and more at the Mars Bar on June 11th! I hope to see all my Seattle pals there!

classic comic weekend!
Today's classic comic is from July of 2005 when we released our album Little D. What a show, Corn Mo, Charles Potts, Man Factory, balloons. This flyer comic follows the tradition of some one talking about a show as if it's going to be awesome.....and it was!

Wednesday Comic!-best ever church outing
My Dad told me this funny story last week. I wasn't going to use it as a comic but I've been working all week and although my work stories are extremely bizarre and hilarious, I would probably get fired if I shared them with the world.

classic comic weekend!
Last week I started classic comic fridays and this friday I forgot to continue the tradition, so here is your classic comic for the weekend. This is for a show on March 1st, 2005 and was the first time I ever met and played with Jason Anderson who is one of the best one man performers I have ever seen, especially if you don't know what to expect. I've probably played with him 5 or 6 other times but nothing could top the magic of this show. Also, the late great Cordelane played and some of Jason's friends from Austin: BEAR. plus....its about snakes!

ch-ch-changes
If you haven't noticed (I'm guessing a lot of you just read the feed of this blog) I have changed homepage of yofishboy.com to go straight to this page since its most frequently updated. All the links you need will be on your top right along with two links that sort out the news posts from the comic posts.
I'm assuming that most of you think that since I haven't given any music news in a while I've just been sitting around drawing comics all day. Not so! I was waiting for all of it to come together so I could drop a bunch of stuff at once...and yeah its coming slow. Here is what I have so far:
New Bass!
New Album!
All songs have been written and rewritten and arrangements are solid, unfortunately we are having to sit on our hands for a little bit in order to work with Matt Pence again (man behind Albatross) at the the Echolab in Argyle, so you might not hear any new recordings until midsummer.
About the songs!
I went into the songwriting process with a couple of strict rules I made myself follow

New Bass!
Ryan Williams has been practicing with us on new and old stuff and seems like a great fit.
Currently you can see him play in...just about every other band in Denton. At our next show be prepared to look on the stage and go "oh that guy...yeah hes great."

About the songs!
I went into the songwriting process with a couple of strict rules I made myself follow
- Every song has to be a profile song about a different fictional character.
- because I really love songs from the british invasion that do this (mary anne with the shaky hand, david watts, arthur, shes a rainbow, the list goes on...)
- Every song has to introduce and include the main character of the following song there by connecting the two characters in someway.
- because I love Mean Mr. Mustard and Polythene Pam
and then...
- Every song title is to be the characters name
- Every name begins with the letter "A"
- All names/songs/tracks are in alphabetical order
this all accidently resulted in...
- each new song/character developing an over all narrative and theme for the album.
Giving myself this kind of structure really caused me to push myself creatively and not settle for something I would have normally written because sometimes when you have all the colors in the world to work with, everything just turns out brown. Am I always going to write and release concept albums that need to be explained with bullet points? Nah. I just felt like it with this one.
oh, it will be called: CLASSIC CREEPS

Bonus Classic Comic Friday!
I mentioned in a comment response a few weeks ago that I would start uploading a lot of my old comics from back when the site had a comic section. Well, most of them were backed up online and seemed to have been erased or misplaced. But I did find a couple and may be able to rescan the others eventually, so until we run out, edit: FOUND THEM ALL. I will start doing "Bonus Classic Comic Fridays" and try to remember when I drew each comic and the story behind it.
Today's is pretty easy because it's a flyer with an actual date drawn on it. This was probably one of the first shows Cavedweller came up from Austin to play with Fishboy in 2004. Monkeytown was also great. Moustaches were yet to have the popularity that they have today.
